Diana's zus, Danielle, is 2 weken op bezoek in Houston. Onze eerste Nederlandse gast. Zaterdag 8 April is ze aangekomen.
Diana's sister, Danielle, has come to visit us in Houston. She is our first Dutch visitor. She arrived Saturday April 8th.
Als eerste avontuur gaan Diana en Danielle naar Brazos Bend State Park. In tegenstelling tot vorige bezoeken, zijn de alligators nu volop aanwezig.
As a first adventure Diana and Danielle go to Brazos Bend State Park. Contrary to previous times, there are plenty of alligators lying around.
Met het paasweekend gaan we naar San Antonio. Midden in het centrum staat de Alamo. Het is een zendingmissie, waar gevochten is om de vrijheid van Texas tegen de Spanjaarden. 150 Texanen hebben lange tijd stand gehouden tegen het Spaanse leger, maar zijn uiteindelijk toch gevallen. Korte tijd later werd de Alamo teruggewonnen en Texas onafhankelijk verklaard.
During Easter weekend we went to San Antonio. In the middle of the city the Alamo is located. It is a mission, where they fought for the freedom of Texas against the Spaniards. 150 Texans stood strong for a long time against the Spanish army, but finally did loose their lives. Shortly after that the Alamo was recovered and Texas freedom was declared..
Daarna maken we een wandeling langs de romantische Riverwalk. Overal zijn kleine restaurantjes en winkeltjes. Er varen rondvaartboten om toeristen rond te leiden.
After that we take a walk along the romantic Riverwalk. You can find little restaurants and shops everywhere. Boats tour around the canal to show tourists around.
Deze prachtige plek langs de Riverwalk is de ingang naar La Villita, een wijkje met huisjes waar oude-ambachten beoefend worden.
This beautiful place along the Riverwalk is the entrance to La Villita, an area with little houses where they show old crafts.
Maar de grote attractie is natuurlijk Seaworld, het geweldige zee-aquarium in San Antonio. In het dolfijnen aquarium kun je dolfijnen voeren en aanraken.
But the main attraction is Seaworld, of course, the magnificent sea-aquarium in San Antonio. In the dolphin aquarium you can feed and touch dolphins.
De hoofdattractie is Shamu, de orka. Hier zie je hem hangen in de lucht tijdens een sprong (geen truukfoto!).
The main attraction is Shamu, the Orca. Here you see him hanging during a jump in the air (no tricks!).
Hier is de kleinere orka, die zijn kunstjes vertoond.

Er is ook een komische show met zeeleeuwen, die als echte acteurs in een toneelstuk meespelen en ook wat uitbundige sprongen uitvoeren.
There is also a comical show with sealions, who perform in a show as real actors and make some wild jumps.
Naaste de zeedieren is Seaworld ook een attraktiepark met waterbanen en achtbanen. We nemen een natte rit in de 'Rio Loco', maar moesten wel 1.5 uur wachten.
Apart from sea animals is Seaworld also an amusement park with water attractions and wild rides. We take a wet ride in the 'Rio Loco', had to wait for 1.5 hours to get on though.
De laatste attraktie die we bekijken zijn de overblijfselen van de andere missieposten in San Antiono. Voor de VS zijn dit zeer historische gebouwen.
The last attraction we look at are the remains of the other missions in San Antonio. These are very old according to American standards.
Het was prachtig lenteweer, zelfs bijna 40 graden C, en een straalblauwe hemel. De beste tijd om cactussen te zien bloeien.
We had beautiful pring weather, even above 100 degrees F, and a blue sky. The best time to see cactus flower.
Aan het einde nog een lekker chinees buffet.
Finish off with a nice Chinese buffet.
Het was een zeer geslaagde vakantie.
We had a very enjoyable holiday.
